Why and How You Can Help

Please help me battle this inoperable brain tumor. I have finished my radiation treatments and my chemotherapy treatments have been stopped indefinitly due to my rapidly declining health. I am battling this beast with everything I have but it is starting to catch up with me now. My hospice nurse has told my mother that I may not make it to Christmas or my birthday and basically that all the fluid buildup is taking over my body. We are praying and hoping that I can make until then but have no idea how my health issues will play out in the forthcoming weeks. After being in contact with The Burzynski Clinic over the past few months we have determined that I will not be able to take part in his clinical trial. Mostly because of my health concerns. And with that being said we need more help now than ever before because mom and dad are still out of work so they can focus on me, my health, and keeping the rest of the household in good spirits. well baby girl it is September childhood cancer awareness month I thought you would be here with me this month to help be the childrens voice but you were silenced by this ugly monster so I will be your voice I will spread awareness for you and all your little friends up there it is hard to believe you have been gone for so long I miss you everyday my only hope is that people hear me and understand what this can do and in such a short time you should be starting school on tuesday but instead i will be her with a broken heart talking to the sky if you are reading this and have never suffered the loss oof a child to cancer or any other reason please never push your kids away when they ask you for one more hug or one more kiss goodnight what I would give for just one more love you baby girl love brandy (angel natalies momma)

My Story

Hello, my name is Natalie Coble. My mother gave birth to me on December 31, 2004. I have two brothers and one sister. Their names are Franklin, Machaylah, and Steven. We live a very normal life full of fun, laughter and most importantly, lots of love. The fun and laughter all came crashing to a halt on June 16, 2009. I remember waking up late that morning and getting ready for school. I was still tired and feeling a little bit dizzy, but nothing seemed to hurt anywhere. My dad noticed I was extra tired that morning, while getting ready for the bus, but nothing seemed to be wrong. I was just too tired, so I thought. I went to school happy as can be, until my teacher noticed my right eye starting to wander. She decided to test my vision and grew more and more concerned. She called my mom and asked her if I had bumped my head and then requested that we go to the doctor's and get a neurological exam. We went to South Shore Hospital and had them perform a neurological exam and they decided we should do a CT scan, which would only show the worst of the worst. After that was done we waited for the results. That didn't take long at all. The doctor told us I had a mass in my brain. He arranged an ambulance ride to Children's Hospital in Boston so we could have further tests and an MRI(that's when things started to get really scary for me). I really didn't like the ambulance ride at all because it scared me so much. We got to the hospital and one of the maintenance workers gave me a balloon. I thanked him a lot for that because it really cheered me up and it was my favorite color, pink. So we had more tests and more tests which took all night. I had to sleep at the hospital because I wasn't getting my MRI until the next morning. Mom and dad stayed with me throughout the night to make sure I was as safe and happy as possible. That day was so long and tiring for me that I didn't wake up until the doctors already did my MRI the next morning. It ended up being a good thing because that really would have scared me. Now all we had to do was wait for the team of doctors to tell us the results from the MRI. So we waited and waited and finally one doctor came in to tell us the diagnosis. He said to us that I had an inoperable tumor in the pons area of the brain stem. In doctor's words, a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. Our jaws dropped and our hearts stopped for a moment while we took it all in. They told us all we could do was try to shrink the tumor with radiation and chemotherapy in a range of different ways. They gave us a few days to decide what to do and we did just that. We chose to go through with radiation and no chemo for now. Radiation requires me to be sedated during the treatment so we had a portacath inserted in my chest so I wouldn't have to get poked by a needle every day for the next 30 days. I also have to take an anti-inflammatory medicine to keep the swelling down and boy does that stuff make me hungry. I also take anti-nausea medication so I don't get too sick from the radiation and the other medications. As the days go by we can only hope and pray that the tumor is shrinking. We have been battling our ups and downs for over a month now and have completed half of my treatment so far. Every day I go to the hospital for my radiation I become less and less scared. As we battle this cancerous tumor my mom and dad try any and everything to figure out what to do after the radiation if it doesn't shrink the tumor any. They have been looking all over the internet and have come across a couple of good options but will need all of your help raising thousands of dollars for my next course of treatment. So before you close your eyes for your good night's sleep, look at the skies above and pray for me tonight. Me, my mom and my dad greatly appreciate everyone's support throughout this unfortunate experience in our lives. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT!!!
